The Minoan

I’ve been working on my fundamentals of late, looking through old comic books and anatomy books to try and improve my figure and face drawing, and to find my style again. The Minoan was inspired by a fresco from the Minoan empire that I saw whilst watching BBCs Civilisations. I just loved the simplicity and colour scheme of the image, which still looked great even after 5000 to 3000 years had gone by. The Minoan civilisation is certainly worth reading about. Not sure of any real connection to King Minos and the Minotaur, but the people and culture on Crete 5000 years ago were evidently very real and very like us, as this image shows. I think my next project will be to try and depict a bull leap. Sounds like a great subject for a dynamic illustration, even if nobody knows quite how real they were or what they were for.
