INKTOBER NUMBER 5

I tried to do this one in traditional media using a dip pen and black ink in my lunch break. However, my use of digital has made me inpatient and I ended up smudging quite a bit of it. I was also without a brush so blacking in large areas was proving quite tedious. When I got home I couldn’t resist a digital tidy up. A quick scan of the original was imported into CSP. I then put a raster layer over that and corrected areas I wasn’t happy with using black or white ink. I collapsed that layer onto the scan to combine them before putting a gradient layer over the top. I used transparent ink or a soft eraser on the gradient layer to bring out highlights and enhance the shading.

I guess this chap is a Borrower of sorts. The basket is actually a broken egg shell but I couldn’t get that over in monochrome. Likewise the right trouser leg is the finger of a glove but only I would know that from the drawing.
