Spring

Another work for the HUTH Art club. The prompt from one of the other members being Spring. Always wanted to paint the amazing blossom that appears in my garden at this time of year. It’s so intense and so transient, but the colours it transitions through are just devine. This was based on a photo I took early on in the cycle. It’s an angle almost vertically up through the branches to the blue sky above. That’s why the light is so intense in places as its backlighting and shining through the vegetation. It gave the petals an almost translucent look. Took me a while to work out how to replicate it in Clip Studio, and you can see how the technique changes throughout the painting as I was working it out. It did take a lot of hard work to complete. It’s a bit untidy but I think that adds rather than detracts. Essentially there is a highlight layer here set at add glow, and I used an airbrush in the brighter areas. I hope you like it. I’ve just ordered a canvas print to see how it comes out. If you want it on your wall let me know. I’m sure we could come to some arrangement.
